CR DONNA GATES
Councillor for GCCC Division 1

DIVISION 1 BOUNDARY CHANGES

The State Government has confirmed the proposed boundary realignment for Gold Coast City at the March 2012 election.

The boundary for Division 3 will move north to Yawalpah Road up Kerkin Road North and along the Pimpama River to Moreton Bay.

This means Division 1 loses the area east of the M1 including Coomera Shores, Coomera Waters, Dreamworld, Coomera Sports Park, Coomera Town Centre, Greenmeadows, Coomera State School, the new Coomera Rivers State School and the surrounding residential developments.

Realignment of boundaries was necessary to provide a more even distribution of electors. The current number of electors in the existing Division 1 was approaching 25,000 people - whereas areas like Southport (Div 6) and Labrador/Arundel (Div 4) number approximately 19,000 electors.

There will be changes to the northern boundaries of both Divisions 4 and 6 - and of course to Division 3.

Please be assured of my commitment to represent your interests in the interim and that I'm extremely sorry to have to lose a part of the existing Division 1. I would have preferred to simply work harder, but unfortunately that can't be.

I'm working with Cr Pforr on joint initiatives that will bring immediate benefits to the area - because Coomera Sports Park for example will continue to benefit residents of other parts of Division 1.

At the last Council election in March 2008, Division 1 had a total elector enrolment of 19,666.
