No boundary changes were necessary for the City of Gold Coast in the leadup to the 2016 election.

Boundaries were realigned prior to the 2012 election as the result of strong growth. The last Electors' Roll indicates that we have have over 28,232 voters in Division 1 - but when the numbers were crunched in about March, the figure was 500 below that necessary for a redistribution. Whew - I don't want to give up any more of Division 1.

As a reminder, Division 3 now takes in the land to the east of the M1 north to Yawalpah Road. As your representative for Division 1, I still look after the area to the west of the M1 up to our border with Logan and east-side from north side Yawalpah Road through to the Logan border.

The area is unique, including our cane fields in Norwell and Woongoolba and the city's industrial engine room at Yatala, with rural and rural residential properties along with the higher density, small lot housing that has become popular with first home buyers in the north.

The city is enjoying a period of confidence with several large investments creating jobs in construction and ongoing employment for locals. The Jewel project will deliver the first beachfront integrated resort to our city in 20 years and the Empire Estate at Yatala is under construction at an estimated cost of $5bn, and 5,000 jobs.

The Cultural Precinct planning is on track and the first stage will soon commence with the demolition of the old Council administration building and development of the large outdoor entertainment area.
